My company was born out of accident. I had the opportunity to travel to Asia and enjoy exploring small local markets. I had been told a "must-see" stop is the pearl markets of China. Strands upon strands upon strands of pearls shone in the many booths, each vendor eager to offer you their "best price".
I was actually unenthusiastic about going to the pearl market initially - my idea of pearl jewelry at the time was still that basic strand of white, round pearls. I greeted my first vendor with a friendly "Ni hao" and was completely overwhelmed by the many colors and shapes of pearls before me.
I wanted to buy one of everything! What I saw was not the strand of pearls my grandmother wore, but much more young, hip, and accessible. I bought a few of my favorites to bring back to the US. After receiving so many compliments on my jewelry and then the inevitable "Where did you get that?", I realized I could bring some back for my friends and start a business!
